Group Visits
Waipā welcomes schools and other organized groups for impactful learning experiences in the ahupua‘a.
A field trip or a group visit experience at Waipā typically lasts about 2-4 hours and includes learning about the place and our work, hands-on mālama ‘āina at one or more of our learning sites, and related cultural and educational lessons that can be subject-specific if requested.
Visits are scheduled Monday through Friday.

Waipāʻs Activities for Field Trips & Group Visits
Your group’s visit can be tailored to age, interest, and specific concepts and objectives you hope to address.
Below are some of the activities we offer.
MAUKA
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND WAYS TO KŌKUA ON YOUR GROUP VISIT:
● Visit, learn and work at our kahawai restoration site
● Visit and learn about our manowai (water diversion) and historical irrigation system
● Hike up to Makaihuwaʻa (cultural site) and learn moʻolelo
● Plant native plants and trees
● Visit our nursery, weed and propagate native plants
● Learn about stream life, native vs invasive plants & animals
● Water quality testing
● Native plant scavenger hunts
● Learn about the water cycle
KULA
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND WAYS TO KŌKUA ON YOUR GROUP VISIT:
● Work in the lo’i and ‘auwai, and ku’i kalo
● Work in our veggie gardens and prepare a farm to table snack or meal.
● Learn about the soil cycle-recycling, composting and bugs
● Learn about plant parts and life cycles
● Visit and feed the pigs
MAKAI
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND WAYS TO KŌKUA ON YOUR GROUP VISIT:
● Visit, learn about & work at Halulu fishpond
● Play a “predator vs. prey” game
● Identify & learn about fish and other creatures in fishpond or muliwai
● Identify & learn about coastal plants
● Learn about the coastal fishpond and wetland food chain
● Learn about traditional & modern ocean gathering and practices
● Learn about the significance & culture of the waʻa
● Paddling & sailing in the waʻa (ocean or stream, seasonal)
